★ Escape and panorama guide
The Quebec-Levis ferry crossing: an escape on the Saint Lawrence
Ten minutes of crossing, two shores, a breathtaking panorama. The Quebec-Levis ferry is the most beautiful excursion in the city, affordable, fast, and unforgettable. A route off the beaten path.
The Crossing
Ten minutes that change everything
The NMQuebec has been shuttling between Quebec and Levis since 1818. It is one of the oldest and most frequent ferry services in the world. A link between two shores, two cultures, two atmospheres.
The Saint Lawrence ferry
From the Old Quebec river station, the ferry departs every hour. In ten minutes, it crosses the Saint Lawrence and docks at Levis. A sprint on the river, with a panoramic view of the Chateau Frontenac and the ramparts of Quebec.
A Quebec tradition
For residents of Quebec and Levis, the ferry is a daily tool. For visitors, it is the most authentic attraction in the region: without artifice, without crowds, with just the wind, the water, and the city as a backdrop.
The View
Quebec seen from the river
The view of Quebec from the middle of the Saint Lawrence is one of the most spectacular in North America. The Chateau Frontenac, the ramparts, the Citadel, the steeples: everything stands before you in a vast perspective.
The must-see panorama
Photographers, lovers, and curious people from around the world make the crossing to capture this image. Depending on the time, the light transforms the gray stones into gold, pink, or deep blue. Each crossing is unique, like an unpredictable turn.
The night crossing
In the evening, the lights of Quebec reflect on the dark waters of the Saint Lawrence. The city sparkles like an illuminated circuit. The night crossing is a magical, almost cinematic experience.
★ ExperienceLevis
The South Shore, to discover
Levis is not just the ferry arrival point. It is a city in its own right, with its historic center, neighborhood restaurants, and panoramas of Quebec.
Old Levis
A few minutes from the dock, old Levis offers pedestrian streets, independent shops, local cafes, and a postcard view of Quebec's Haute-Ville. A double circuit for those who want to see both shores.
The forts of Levis
The forts of Levis, built to protect Quebec in the 19th century, offer a fascinating perspective on territorial defense. National parks, walks, and historical exhibitions make Levis a destination in its own right.
❖ History★ Barista's tip
The perfect itinerary
Before taking the ferry, stop by Carrera Cafe on rue du Petit-Champlain for an espresso and a croissant. Cross to Levis, explore the old district, have lunch on the south shore. Cross back in the evening and end your day on the terrace at Carrera Cafe with a Negroni. The great Saint Lawrence circuit.
All Seasons
The river in four seasons
The ferry operates year-round, in all weather. Each season offers a different experience: ice in winter, flowers in spring, golden light in autumn, endless summer skies.
Winter on the river
In January and February, the Saint Lawrence sometimes covers itself with ice. Crossing through the floating ice is a unique polar experience. The ferry makes its way through the ice pack, like an arctic rally driver.
The autumn sunset
In September and October, the colors of the foliage are reflected in the river waters. The low autumn light turns each crossing into an impressionist painting. A free show, offered twice a day.
