Quebec enjoys an impressive cultural infrastructure for a city of its size. Beyond the National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec (MNBAQ), which is the regional reference, the city has dozens of private galleries, associative spaces, and open studios that make up the living artistic ecosystem of the capital.
The scene is supported by several generations of artists. The elders, trained at the Quebec School of Fine Arts in the 70s–80s, built the foundations. The young, trained today at the Visual Arts School of Laval University, bring new energy, very connected to international trends.
This dialogue between tradition and innovation is found in the city's galleries: they exhibit both painters established for thirty years and digital artists who are not yet thirty. The coexistence is fertile, sometimes conflictual, always stimulating.

Where to Find Galleries
Quebec contemporary art is concentrated in two distinct hubs, each with its own personality.
Old Quebec concentrates the most established and commercial galleries. In Haute-Ville, around Saint-Jean Street, dozens of galleries offer works ranging from classic Quebec landscapes to ambitious contemporary installations. Prices are high, the audience is touristy but demanding.
The Saint-Roch and Limoilou neighborhoods are the emerging hub. Here, alternative spaces, studio-galleries, and artist collectives form a rawer, more experimental scene. Lower rents than in Haute-Ville allow artistic risks that often prove fruitful.
Le Petit-Champlain, where Carrera Café is located, is not exempt from the artistic scene. Several craft workshops and small creator galleries make the alley a full aesthetic experience, between architectural heritage and contemporary creation.
