Coffee near Château Frontenac in Quebec: Carrera Café in Petit-Champlain
After Terrasse Dufferin, go down to the best coffee in the neighborhood.
The Château Frontenac is Quebec’s postcard. It’s photographed from Terrasse Dufferin, seen from the river, and sought with the eyes as soon as you arrive in town. But after the photo, after the walk, comes the desire for a coffee. Carrera Café is less than five minutes on foot, at the bottom of the funicular, in the Petit-Champlain neighborhood.
See the menuFrom Terrasse Dufferin, take the funicular (accessible near the Château) to go down to the lower town. At the exit, you are in the heart of Petit-Champlain. Turn left, walk two minutes on rue du Petit-Champlain, and you will arrive at Carrera Café at 72 boulevard Champlain. Five minutes total. It’s one of the most pleasant transitions in the city.
If you prefer the stairs, the Escalier Casse-Cou also descends from the upper town to Petit-Champlain. Fifty-nine steps, a bit of breath, and a different view of the neighborhood. Both options are worth trying during the same visit.
Our coffees are prepared with beans selected from specialty Quebec roasters. Each extraction is calibrated. The latte is served with well-textured milk. The cappuccino is short and intense. And for those who want to linger, drip coffee is available in a large cup.
If you come from a city where specialty coffee is the norm, you'll find the same level of quality here. If this is your first experience with a quality espresso, you'll quickly understand why it makes all the difference.
Petit-Champlain is a unique neighborhood in Quebec. Its cobblestone alleys, stone houses, and European village atmosphere contrast with the grandeur of the Château Frontenac above. It's a place to slow down, get a little lost, and discover shops and spots that go beyond the usual tourist scene.
Organic Charlevoix charcuterie, Quebec cheeses, focaccia from Boulangerie Borderon et Fils. Our snack menu is perfect for a break between tourist activities. Substantial enough to satisfy, light enough to keep going without feeling heavy.
Less than a five-minute walk from the Old Quebec funicular. Open every day. No reservation needed for coffee or snacks.
