Ten days that transform the city
Every July since 1968, the Québec Summer Festival sets up its stages in Old Québec and transforms the capital into an international music celebration.
The Québec Summer Festival is one of the largest music festivals in North America. In ten days, more than 300 shows take place on about ten stages scattered throughout Old Québec and the surrounding area. The Plains of Abraham stage, the largest, can accommodate tens of thousands of spectators for international headliners.
What makes the FEQ unique among major festivals is its accessibility: a single ticket grants access to all shows throughout the festival. This formula encourages discovery, musical improvisation, and genre crossovers that no algorithmic playlist would have suggested.
The Summer Festival in numbers
Founded in 1968, the FEQ is one of the oldest outdoor music festivals in Canada. It attracts world-renowned artists every year in genres as varied as rock, pop, world music, jazz, and classical music.
The Plains of Abraham as the main stage
The main stage on the Plains of Abraham is one of the most spectacular concert venues in the world: a vast historic esplanade above the Saint Lawrence River, with the walls of Old Québec as a backdrop and the river on the horizon. The sunsets during late-night concerts are unforgettable.

The Grand Théâtre de Québec
The Grand Théâtre is the main venue for classical music, theater, and opera in Quebec City. The Quebec Symphony Orchestra, one of Canada’s oldest orchestras, regularly performs there in programs ranging from Beethoven to contemporary creations.
Intimate bars and venues
Grande Allée and Old Quebec concentrate several bars with live music on weekends. In Saint-Roch, mid-sized venues host the local indie scene and regional tours. These intimate concerts, often affordable, offer a closeness to the artists that big festivals can’t match.

Music doesn’t stop in August
After the Summer Festival, musical life continues in Quebec City with varied programming and an active local scene.
The fall concerts
September and October mark the return of regular programming in venues. It’s often the best time to see recognized Quebec artists in intimate venues, before the winter tours that take them to big cities.
Music as a refuge
In winter, music takes on a different dimension in Quebec City. Venues fill more easily, the atmosphere is more intimate, and coffee or mulled wine served during the intermission are part of the experience. The Carnival also includes musical performances in its program.
