THE MONACO CIRCUIT
April 2025 · 8 min read · Carrera Café · Season: Spring
The temple of Formula 1 in the heart of the city. The most irrational and coveted race on the calendar.
A CIRCUIT UNLIKE ANY OTHER
Monaco is an anomaly in the world of Formula 1. A street circuit traced through the narrow streets of the Principality, with its impossible turns, tunnels, and guardrails that brush against the single-seaters. By modern standards of safety and overtaking, Monaco should have disappeared from the calendar long ago. But it is still there, more prestigious than ever. Why? Because some things transcend sporting logic.
The Monaco Grand Prix is the history of Formula 1 embodied in the asphalt of Sainte-Dévote, in the tunnel, in the Port Chicane, and in the famous Swimming Pool corner. Every meter of this circuit is steeped in legends.
THE LEGENDARY CORNERS
Sainte-Dévote: the first corner after the start, where collisions are frequent. Massenet: a blind, full-speed corner that leads to the Casino. The Casino: one of the most photographed corners in the world, with its luxury hotels in the background. La Rascasse: one of the slowest corners on the circuit, a must for photographers.
THE LEGENDS WHO HAVE MARKED MONACO
Ayrton Senna won the Monaco Grand Prix six times. His ability to tame this impossible circuit was supernatural. Michael Schumacher, five victories. Graham Hill, also five victories, earning him the nickname "Mister Monaco." These drivers have something in common: a deep connection with this circuit that is unlike any other.
