Coffee and creativity: why creatives worldwide work in coffee shops like Carrera

Writers, designers, musicians, entrepreneurs: they all work in coffee shops. Why? Science has the answers. And Carrera Café in Petit-Champlain is the perfect illustration.

The science behind creative coffee

A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research showed that the moderate ambient noise of a coffee shop (around 70 decibels) significantly improves creative thinking compared to complete silence or loud noise. This phenomenon, called "stochastic resonance," is linked to how our brain processes information in the presence of background noise.

In other words: the perfect coffee shop for creation exists. And it looks a lot like Carrera Café.

Famous creatives and coffee

Philosopher and author, he wrote a good part of his work at Café de Flore in Paris. The cafe as a workshop.

J.K. Rowling

She wrote the first chapters of Harry Potter in an Edinburgh coffee shop. The first novel of a global saga.

Steve Jobs

He planned walking meetings, but loved coffee shops for important creative conversations.
