High-end Italian bar

Here, a cocktail isn't just a drink. It's a stage in the circuit. Each preparation is conceived with the rigor of a pit stop mechanic.

There are two types of places to have a drink in Quebec City: those that serve alcohol, and those that serve an experience. Carrera Cafe definitely belongs to the latter category. The bar is designed like a Grand Prix paddock: a space where precision meets pleasure, where every detail counts.

The inspiration is clearly Italian. Italians have a special relationship with aperitivo: it's a ritual, a transition between work and evening, between effort and reward. The Aperitivo is an institution. At Carrera, it has been adopted and adapted to the Quebec context, with local products and a Nordic sensibility.

The ideal pit stop

Aperitivo time at Carrera naturally falls between 5 PM and 7 PM. This is when the Petit-Champlain terrace is at its most beautiful: the light is warm, the streets begin to calm down, and a well-balanced Negroni takes on its full meaning.

The signature menu

Revisited Italian classics, original creations inspired by the circuit. Each cocktail bears a name that pays homage to racing.

Signature

The Paddock - Elevated Spritz

The reinvented Spritz. Prosecco, Aperol, a touch of sparkling water and the chef's secret: a mist of homemade Quebec citrus bitter.

The Spritz is the quintessential summer cocktail. Light, sparkling, joyful. Carrera's Paddock version elevates it with a homemade bitter that gives it a distinct personality. On the terrace, in the July sun, there's nothing better.

The Pole Position - Signature Hugo

Elderflower, fresh mint, prosecco, sparkling water. The cocktail that takes the lead.

The Hugo is the preferred cocktail of Northern Italians. Fresh, floral, almost summery even in May. At Carrera, it's served with fresh mint picked every morning and seasonal elderflower syrup. The pole position of the bar menu.

The Grand Prix - Aged Sidecar

VSOP Cognac, Cointreau, fresh lemon juice. The great classic, executed with precision.

The Sidecar is a 1920s classic that hasn't aged a bit. In its Grand Prix version at Carrera, it is prepared with a selected VSOP cognac and quality Cointreau. It's the end-of-evening cocktail, the one you order when you've decided to finish the race well.

Cocktail and board, the perfect match

Each cocktail has its ideal board pairing. Here are our suggestions to maximize flavor enjoyment.

Tifosi (Negroni) + Charlevoix Charcuterie

The classic pairing. The bitterness of the Negroni contrasts with the fat and salt of artisanal charcuterie.

Organic charcuterie from Charlevoix has a strong, assertive character, with a richness that demands a cocktail capable of holding its own. The Negroni is made for this. Its bitterness cleanses the palate, its complexity accompanies the long flavors of the charcuterie. A classic that never disappoints.

Pole Position (Hugo) + Quebec Cheeses

Finesse against finesse. The floral notes of the Hugo awaken the subtle aromas of aged cheeses.

Quebec cheeses offer remarkable diversity. From the mildest to the most pungent, they respond well to the floral lightness of the Hugo. Fresh mint and elderflower create a fresh contrast that highlights soft cheeses in particular. The surprise pairing on the menu.

Grand Prix (Sidecar) + Complete Board

The all-season pairing. The Sidecar, with its richness and acidity, adapts to each element of the board.

If you don't know what to choose, pick the Sidecar with the complete board. It's the most versatile pairing on the menu. The cognac goes well with charcuterie, the Cointreau with cheese, and the lemon balances the whole. The paddock's safe bet.

Summer Version

In summer, opt for the Paddock (Spritz) or the Pole Position (Hugo) with a light platter: fresh cheeses, grilled focaccia, and a few slices of bresaola. Light, fresh, perfect for the sunny terrace.

Winter Version

In winter, the Tifosi or the Grand Prix perfectly complement the full platter with a selection of aged cheeses and heartier cured meats. The warmth of cognac or gin will warm up cold evenings in Petit-Champlain under the snow.

When to visit the Buvette

Carrera's buvette has many faces depending on the time and season. Here's how to experience it to the fullest.

Summer

Golden Hour on the Terrace

Between 5 PM and 8 PM in summer, the Petit-Champlain terrace is the best spot in Quebec City.

The low sun on the stone facades, the cobblestones retaining the day's warmth, and a sparkling Spritz in the golden light. This is the perfect summer version of aperitivo at Carrera. Arrive before 6 PM to get a table on the terrace, especially on weekends.

Winter

Winter Aperitivo at the Bar

When snow falls on Petit-Champlain, Carrera's interior becomes a warm refuge.

Winter in Quebec City is long and beautiful. Carrera's buvette takes on another dimension when it's -15°C outside: warm lights, the discreet clinking of ice in glasses, a Negroni warming your hands. It's the ideal setting for a leisurely evening.

Groups

Evenings with Friends or as a Couple

Carrera's buvette is designed for sharing. The platters, the cocktails, the atmosphere. Everything invites conversation.

Large groups are welcome, but Carrera also excels for evenings for two. The proximity to the bar, attentive service, platters to share. It's the ideal setting for a first date or an intimate celebration. Reservations are recommended on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

For Tourists

If you're visiting Quebec City and looking for a place to end your day beautifully, Carrera's buvette is your best option in Petit-Champlain. After a day exploring Old Quebec, Chateau Frontenac, and Dufferin Terrace, head down to the Lower Town and let us welcome you for aperitivo.
