Quebec Summer Festival: the party on the terrace at Carrera Cafe

Every summer in July, Quebec vibrates to the rhythm of the largest outdoor music festival in North America. The Plains of Abraham transform into a giant stage. Petit-Champlain becomes the natural VIP lounge of the party.

The largest outdoor music festival in America

Since 1968, the Quebec Summer Festival has welcomed the biggest names in world music on the Plains of Abraham.

The Quebec Summer Festival (FEQ) is held every year in July, usually for 11 days. The Plains of Abraham host the Grande Scene, where artists like Paul McCartney, Rihanna, The Rolling Stones, Kendrick Lamar, and hundreds more have performed over the decades.

The FEQ is much more than a music festival. It is a major social event that transforms the entire city of Quebec. The streets of Old Quebec, Petit-Champlain, and terraces throughout the city vibrate to the rhythm of concerts for several weeks.

With more than 300 shows on several stages and nearly a million tickets sold, the FEQ is one of the most important cultural events in Canada. For Carrera Cafe, it is the peak season, with crowded terraces and a unique atmosphere.

★ FEQ figures

The Quebec Summer Festival attracts on average more than 950,000 festival-goers over 11 days. More than 300 shows, about ten stages, free or paid. One of the most attended events in North America.

From the Grande Scene to neighborhood stages

The FEQ is not limited to the Plains. Free stages enliven all of Old Quebec, including Petit-Champlain.

Bell Stage

Free stage in the heart of Old Quebec, at Place d'Youville. Varied programming, accessible to all without a ticket. The popular soul of the Festival, just minutes from Carrera Cafe.

Neighborhood stages

Throughout the Festival, artists perform in the streets and squares of Old Quebec. Petit-Champlain itself becomes a lively stage where music and coffee naturally blend.

Loto-Quebec stage

A complementary stage to the Main Stage, with a more alternative and emerging lineup. Often the place where you discover tomorrow's artists before they headline elsewhere.

The Festival's natural VIP lounge

In July, the Carrera Cafe terrace is one of the most popular in Petit-Champlain. View of the lively street, street music in the background, iced latte in hand.

During the Summer Festival, Petit-Champlain is buzzing. Thousands of festival-goers pass through the street before and after concerts on the Plains. The Carrera Cafe terrace becomes the ideal meeting point: between two concerts, before the evening, or simply to enjoy the atmosphere without rushing.

Our team adapts service for the Festival. Orders are quick, drinks are cold, and tables are turned over to accommodate the maximum number of festival-goers. If you want a terrace table on a concert night, book in advance: they go very fast in July.

Survive the Festival with class

Tips from our team to enjoy the Summer Festival stress-free and in style.

★ Transport
How to get around during the FEQ

The Plains of Abraham are a 15-20 minute walk from Petit-Champlain. Avoid driving: the streets of Old Quebec are closed on Festival nights. The best route: on foot via the Casse-Cou stairs, or by taxi to the Saint-Jean gate.

Timing
The perfect time for the terrace

Concerts on the Grande Scene usually start at 8-9 PM. Arrive at Carrera Cafe between 6 and 7 PM to enjoy the terrace before the rush. This is when the street is lively but not yet crowded.

For festival-goers who want to experience the Festival differently, without the crowd and with the best of Carrera Cafe.

★ Private Festival terrace table

Reservation of a private terrace table for an entire Festival evening. Package includes a bottle of wine or prosecco, Paddock board, and dedicated service. Very limited availability in July, reservation at least 72 hours in advance.

❖ Festival Pack (for 4 people)

Four iced lattes or cocktails, two boards to share, desserts. The ideal pack for a group of friends before a big concert. To be booked via our group reservation form.

❖ The after-concert at the bar

After the concert on the Plains, join us at the Carrera Cafe bar. Signature cocktails, cozy atmosphere, late-night cheese board. The best way to extend your Festival night.

❖ Barista tip

The Summer Festival is much more than the big paid stages. The best FEQ moments often happen in the streets of Old Quebec, around the free stages, on the terraces, in the festive city atmosphere. Sit on the terrace, order an iced latte, and let the street music come to you. This is often where the real Festival memories are made.

The after-concert at the bar
