Quebec City Summer Festival: The Terrace Party at Carrera Cafe
Every July, Quebec City pulses to the rhythm of North America's largest outdoor music festival. The Plains of Abraham transform into a giant stage. Le Petit-Champlain, meanwhile, becomes the festival's natural VIP lounge.
Since 1968, the Quebec City Summer Festival has welcomed the biggest names in world music to the Plains of Abraham.
The Quebec City Summer Festival (FEQ) is held every year in July, usually for 11 days. The Plains of Abraham host the Main Stage, where artists such as Paul McCartney, Rihanna, The Rolling Stones, Kendrick Lamar and hundreds of others have performed over the decades.
The FEQ is much more than a music festival. It's a major social event that transforms the entire city of Quebec. The streets of Old Quebec, Petit-Champlain, and the city's terraces all buzz with concerts for several weeks.
With over 300 shows on multiple stages and nearly a million tickets sold, the FEQ is one of Canada's most important cultural events. For Carrera Cafe, it's peak season par excellence, with crowded terraces and a unique atmosphere.
The Quebec City Summer Festival attracts an average of over 950,000 festival-goers over 11 days. More than 300 shows, a dozen stages, free or paid. One of the most frequented events in North America.
The FEQ is not limited to the Plains. Free stages enliven all of Old Quebec, including Petit-Champlain.
On the Plains of Abraham, the Main Stage welcomes global headliners. Capacity: tens of thousands of people. Tickets required for main shows.
Free stage in the heart of Old Quebec, on Place d'Youville. Varied program, accessible to all without a ticket. The popular soul of the Festival, a few minutes from Carrera Cafe.
Throughout the Festival, artists perform in the streets and squares of Old Quebec. Petit-Champlain itself becomes a vibrant stage where music and coffee naturally blend.
A complementary stage to the Main Stage, with a more alternative and emerging program. Often the place where tomorrow's artists are discovered before they headline elsewhere.
In July, the Carrera Cafe terrace is one of the most popular in Petit-Champlain. Views of the lively street, street music in the background, iced latte in hand.
During the Summer Festival, Petit-Champlain is buzzing. Thousands of festival-goers pass through the street before and after concerts on the Plains. The Carrera Cafe terrace becomes the ideal meeting point: between two concerts, before the evening, or simply to enjoy the atmosphere without rushing.
Our team adapts service for the Festival. Orders are fast, drinks are cold, and tables are arranged to accommodate the maximum number of festival-goers. If you want a table on the terrace on a concert night, book in advance: they go very quickly in July.
Iced latte or welcome cocktail, light sharing platter, lively street atmosphere. The perfect formula before heading up to the Plains for the evening concert. 45 minutes of pure pleasure before the adrenaline rush.
Tips from our team to enjoy the Summer Festival stress-free and in style.
The Plains of Abraham are a 15-20 minute walk from Petit-Champlain. Avoid driving: the streets of Old Quebec are blocked on Festival evenings. The best way: on foot via the Breakneck Stairs, or by taxi to Saint-Jean Gate.
Concerts on the Main Stage generally start between 8 PM and 9 PM. Arrive at Carrera Cafe between 6 PM and 7 PM to enjoy the terrace before the rush. This is when the street is lively but not yet overcrowded.
For festival-goers who want to experience the Festival differently, without the crowd and with the best of Carrera Cafe.
Reservation of a private terrace table for an entire Festival evening. Package includes a bottle of wine or prosecco, Paddock platter, and dedicated service. Very limited availability in July, minimum 72h reservation.
Four iced lattes or cocktails, two sharing platters, desserts. The ideal pack for a group of friends before a big concert. Book via our group reservation form.
After the concert on the Plains, join us at the Carrera Cafe buvette. Signature cocktails, cozy atmosphere, late-night cheese platter. The best way to extend the Festival night.
The Summer Festival is much more than the big paid stages. The best moments of the FEQ are often experienced in the streets of Old Quebec, around the free stages, on the terraces, in the festive atmosphere of the city. Settle down on a terrace, order an iced latte, and let the street music come to you. That's often where true Festival memories are made.
Settle on the terrace with a Petit-Champlain Spritz, watch the street lively with the Festival, then head up to the Plains for the concert. The perfect sequence for a FEQ evening.
The Festival lunch: signature Paddock platter and Grand Prix iced latte. Simple, delicious, summery. The perfect fuel before an afternoon of discovery in Old Quebec.
Come back from the concert, settle at the buvette, order a cocktail and a cheese platter. Debrief the show with friends over a drink. The best possible end to a Festival evening.
