Latte art: the barista's art explained by Carrera Café at Petit-Champlain in Québec
This rosette on your latte is no accident. It is the result of hundreds of hours of practice, precise technique, and quality coffee beans. Our barista explains.
What is latte art?
Latte art is the technique of creating patterns in the milk foam of a café au lait. There are two methods: "free pouring" (pouring directly from the pitcher) and etching (drawing with a tool). At Carrera Café, our baristas practice free pouring.
Good latte art is not only beautiful: it indicates that the milk has been textured correctly and that the espresso is of quality. It is a visual quality indicator.
