The Barista Championships
There is a world where baristas prepare espressos in front of judges with a stopwatch, explain the origin of their coffee with the precision of a researcher, and create signature drinks that push the limits of what is possible. This is the world of barista championships. And like in F1, the level is stratospheric.
The main competitions
Each competition tests a specific skill. Each discipline has its own rules and evaluation criteria.
The World Barista Championship. 15 minutes. 12 espressos, 12 cappuccinos, 12 signature drinks. Judged on technique, taste, and presentation. The best baristas in the world. The mother of all coffee competitions.
The filter coffee competition. Participants prepare three coffees using open brewing methods (V60, Chemex, etc.), present and defend their coffee as a gourmet beverage. Sensory excellence above all.
The latte art competition. Baristas create patterns in milk with astonishing speed and precision. Rosettes, swans, portraits. A discipline that blends technique and visual art.
The Canadian Barista Championship sends the best Canadian baristas to represent the country at the world championship every year. Quebec regularly produces finalists. The Canadian scene is globally recognized for its rigor.
Why competitions raise the level

The signature drinks presented at the WBC are creative laboratories. In 2023, baristas presented espressos infused with wild yeasts, coffees aged in whiskey barrels, and temperature-controlled preparations never seen before.
