When motor racing inspires your coffee break
From paddock vocabulary to pit stop philosophy, the world of motor racing has completely changed the way we conceive a cafe. Welcome to Carrera Cafe, where every detail is a nod to the circuit.
Why "Carrera"? Because there is an elegance in racing that resembles the elegance in coffee.
"Carrera" is a Spanish word meaning "race." It is also the name of one of the legends of endurance racing: the Carrera Panamericana, a mythical race that crossed Mexico from south to north in the 1950s. Porsche named its iconic model in tribute to this event.
When the founders of Carrera Cafe chose this name, they wanted to capture that same duality: precision and passion, speed and grace, effort and pleasure. A well-prepared coffee is no different from a perfect lap. Every move counts, every second matters.
Located in Petit-Champlain, one of the oldest neighborhoods in North America, the contrast with the racing world is intentional. The cobblestone streets of Old Quebec meet the modernity of the paddock. History meets adrenaline.
The 1952 Carrera Panamericana was won by Karl Kling in a Mercedes-Benz 300SL. These were the same years when espresso was conquering Europe. Speed and coffee have always been linked.
Every term from the racing world has naturally found its place in our cafe, without exaggeration.
In a race, it's the strategic stop at the pits for refueling and adjustments. At Carrera Cafe, it's your ideal break: quick, efficient, refreshing. Your fuel for the day.
The best spot on the starting grid. For us, it's the terrace table with a view of Petit-Champlain street, the one everyone wants. Book early.
The space behind the stands, reserved for teams and machines. Our paddock is the kitchen, the creative zone, where every board and every drink is born.
The main event, the moment of truth. Our Grand Prix formula is the complete experience: starter, main course, signature drink, dessert. Nothing is missing, everything is calculated.
The top 3. In our articles, the "On the podium" section presents the three choices our team absolutely recommends. No chance, only conviction.
The moment of grace after effort. For us, it’s the last coffee of the day, the one you savor without rushing, when the sun sets over the Saint Lawrence River.
A successful Formula 1 pit stop takes 2.5 seconds. Ours takes as long as it needs.
In car racing, the pit stop is a moment of high precision where every move is choreographed, every motion calculated. Nothing is left to chance. Time lost in the pits can cost a victory.
At Carrera Cafe, we have reversed the principle. We believe that the break deserves to be savored. Not rushed. Not shortened. A hastily prepared coffee is not coffee. It’s just hot brown water.
Our baristas work with the same focus as an F1 mechanic, but without a watch in their hands. Perfect extraction, ideal temperature, just the right foam: these details are not improvised. They are prepared, perfected, passed on.
25 to 30 seconds of extraction. 9 bars of pressure. 93 degrees Celsius. These parameters are not whims: they are the result of decades of research in coffee gastronomy. Like suspension settings in qualifying.
The Carrera Cafe experience in its most complete version. For special occasions and exceptional tables.
Signature Paddock platter, Scuderia espresso or latte of choice, welcome cocktail from the bar, dessert of the day. The full extent of our expertise at one table.
Two platters of choice, two signature drinks, sharing a selection of aged cheeses. The perfect duo for big celebrations.
Private reservation of a space for groups of 6 to 12 people. Customized menu, dedicated service, exclusive atmosphere. By request only, limited availability.
Like the Formula 1 calendar, our menu follows the rhythm of the seasons. Each month has its accent.
Terrace returns, iced latte on the menu, light platters with fresh cheeses. The racing season begins, energy is at its peak.
Tourists flock, Petit-Champlain is alive. Our seasonal platters include local products at their peak: candied tomatoes, fresh herbs, summer cheeses.
Leaves fall on Old Quebec. The menu warms up: spiced lattes, platters with aged cheeses, stronger charcuterie. Espresso regains its favorite spot.
Carrera Cafe turns into a warm refuge. Signature mulled wine, vanilla latte, generous platters. The circuit is under snow but the engine is still running.
Great race drivers don’t watch their competitors. They watch the road ahead. When you order an espresso at Carrera Cafe, forget what you drank before. Let the cup guide you. The taste, the temperature, the balanced bitterness: this is your circuit, savor every curve.
To fully experience Carrera Cafe, here are the three steps of our team.
Settle in at pole position, the terrace table with a view of Petit-Champlain street, and order a Scuderia espresso. The founding ritual of Carrera Cafe.
The signature platter with a glass of natural red wine. The perfect match between the race paddock and Quebec's gastronomic heritage.
For special occasions. The formula that brings together everything Carrera Cafe can do: platter, signature drink, dessert. The full circuit lap.
