Jacques-Cartier
National Park
40 minutes from Quebec City, the Jacques-Cartier Valley offers one of the most beautiful nature immersions in the province. Hiking, kayaking, wildlife observation: an exceptional natural circuit.
On the program
The Jacques-Cartier Valley is a spectacular glacial scar in the Laurentian plateau, a landscape that seems borrowed from Scandinavia.
Jacques-Cartier National Park covers 670 km2 of boreal forest and glacial valleys in the heart of the Laurentians. Only 40 kilometers from Quebec City, it offers untouched wild nature, accessible in less than an hour from Old Quebec.
The Jacques-Cartier Valley is the jewel of the park: a deep valley carved by glaciers, whose steep walls plunge towards the turquoise river. From the perched viewpoints, one can embrace a panorama that seems to belong to another era, before human presence.
In autumn, the colors of the boreal forest transform the valley into a living painting: the oranges, reds, and yellows of the deciduous trees contrast with the dark green of the spruces. It is one of the most beautiful Indian Summer experiences in Quebec.
Jacques-Cartier National Park
670 km2 of boreal forest, turquoise river, glacial valleys and exceptional panoramas 40 minutes from Quebec City.
The park offers more than 100 km of marked trails for all levels, from family walks to challenging ascents.
Sentier les Loups (Wolves Trail)
One of the most popular trails in the park: an ascent to viewpoints overlooking the valley, with spectacular views of the Jacques-Cartier River. Ideal for intermediate hikers seeking panoramas.
Valley Trails
The valley floor trails along the river are perfect for families and beginners. Children will find natural sand beaches, wading areas, and picnic spots by the water. An ideal setting for a full day with the family.
The Jacques-Cartier River is one of Quebec's best kayaking and canoeing rivers, with sections ranging from calm to technical rapids.
River Kayaking
The Jacques-Cartier offers kayaking sections for all levels. Beginners can rent equipment and kayaks at the park's service center. Experts can tackle class II and III rapids in the upper part of the river. A gliding experience on crystal-clear water.
The park is an exceptional habitat for wild fauna: moose, woodland caribou, beavers, golden eagles, and wolves inhabit these forests.
Jacques-Cartier Park is home to one of Quebec's most accessible woodland caribou populations. These emblematic animals of the taiga can be observed on high-altitude trails, particularly in spring and autumn. Moose are also common in the marshy areas of the valley.
Birds of prey nest in the valley's cliffs: golden eagles, great horned owls, and red-tailed hawks establish their territory here. For ornithologists, the Jacques-Cartier is an exceptional observation circuit, enriched by the diversity of forest habitats.
The river is populated with brook trout and brown trout. Trout fishing is a popular activity in the park, subject to strict regulations that guarantee the health of fish populations in these preserved waters.
