What to drink in Petit Champlain this summer: our guide to the Iced Latte and iced coffee
April 2026 · 4 min read · Carrera Café · The Coffee Journal
There are summer days when the heat of Old Quebec invites you to slow down, sit, and let the world pass by. At Carrera Café, nestled in the heart of Petit Champlain, we thought exactly of that: cold drinks that feel good, served with the same rigor as our morning espresso.
Here is our complete guide to drinking cold in Petit Champlain this summer.
The Iced Latte: the classic that never disappoints
The Iced Latte at Carrera Café is our signature espresso precisely extracted, poured over ice, lengthened with smooth cold milk. The cold version of the hot latte you love, but with that texture you only get when you take the time to do things right.
The version we recommend right now: the Iced Latte with maple syrup. A shot of espresso, oat milk, a dash of homemade maple syrup. It's the Quebec iced latte you only order once before making it a habit. $7, and it's hard to find better in Petit Champlain for this heat.
The Espresso Tonic: for those who want something different
If you've never tried an espresso tonic, summer at Carrera Café is the perfect time. Espresso, premium tonic, crushed ice. The result is lively, slightly bitter, surprising, hard to order just once. It's also offered with a basil or lavender syrup for an even more signature touch. $8.
Cold Brew: patience rewarded
Our Cold Brew is slowly prepared, cold-infused for several hours for a smooth, bitterness-free, naturally sweet result. It's the coffee for long terrace walks, afternoons on the Petit Champlain cobblestones, and extended conversations. Add a homemade caramel syrup: the combination is a must. $6.50.
Where to sit: the Petit Champlain terrace
Carrera Café is located in the heart of Petit Champlain, just steps from Place Royale and the funicular. Our terrace overlooks one of the most photographed streets in North America. In summer, it's the perfect spot to watch the neighborhood come alive, cold drink in hand, without having to look for it.
Close to Château Frontenac, within walking distance from Terrasse Dufferin, Carrera Café is a natural stop for tourists heading down to the Lower Town. If you're looking for a unique café terrace in Quebec, you've found it.
Our tip for this summer
Start with a Maple Iced Latte. If the sun is still out an hour later, switch to Cold Brew. If you're in aperitif mode, the Espresso Tonic makes a great transition to our evening cocktails.
