Porsche 911: sixty years of an icon that refuses to age
April 2026 · 8 min read · Carrera Cafe · Season: spring
In 1963, Porsche introduced a rear-engine sports car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Sixty years later, the 911 is still here. It might be the most astonishing design story in automotive history.
The silhouette that never changes
What makes the 911 unique in automotive history is its continuity of form. The profile with the rear overhang engine, round headlights, and sleek body lines have been there since 1963. Each generation has refined without ever breaking it.
The flat engine: a radical choice maintained
The flat-six engine positioned above the rear axle remains one of Porsche’s boldest decisions. This design gives the 911 a unique and absolutely thrilling driving experience once mastered.
The Carrera: the name that carries history
The name Carrera comes from the Carrera Panamericana, a legendary race from the 1950s. Porsche won it and made it the badge of its sportiest versions. That’s also why our cafe is called Carrera.
The 911 and coffee: two things that age well
There is something in common between a great specialty coffee and a 911: both reward attention to detail and stand the test of time. This is the spirit that guides Carrera Cafe in Old Quebec.
